Hi Paul here,
I always knew that when my good friend, Ryan, decided to get married and asked me to be the best man that I was going to have to prepare several best man speeches examples. What I didn’t know was how hard it was going to be. Don’t tell anyone but I didn’t prepare my speech for weeks until I realized that I better start to write it before it was too late.
Here’s a quick tip – don’t do what I did and leave it until the last minute. If you do this your speech isn’t going to be that good. I strongly suggest that you plan well in advance.
When you begin contemplating your best man speech you’ll quickly realize that the tast of writing it may appear daunting. Remember that in addition to writing it, you also need to help prepare the groom for his big day. You know, ensuring that he has everything as well as organzing his stag party. If you get too caught up in these planning activities you will forget to write your speech.
About a week before the wedding day, I realized that I should start planning the speech and toasts. So I sat down and started putting a whole bunch of ideas on paper. It was a mixed bag of ideas that I jotted down based on the first thing that entered by head. The hard part was taking all of these ideas and making them sound like one great speech.
Initially I found that organizing these ideas into a series of wedding toasts was hard. However, I found some great speech guides and best man speeches that made this easy. These guides helped take my information and develop it into a story that was funny, entertaining and memorable. If you’re serious about creating a lasting impression then I encourage you to check them out.

Hi it’s Paul…
I have found that the most memorable wedding speeches are those that strike a balance between being emotional and funny. Generally speaking, funny best man speeches are a real crowd-pleaser as long as the material is clean, witty and not offensive to anyone in the wedding party.
I used humor in my speech which I found kept the audience listening to me. One tip that I can offer you is to try to use humor throughout the speech but use it at different times. For instance, you may want to start with a joke at the beginning to get the audience to warm up to you. Then use a funny story in the middle to grab everyone’s attention again. Finally, you may want to conclude with another funny story so that everyone will remember you as the cool and funny best man.
Another thing that you can try when delivering your funny speech is to interact with the audience. Remember that this is a toast and not a lecture so try to have conversations with certain people in the wedding party who can help add some humor.
As with all speeches, make sure th make good eye contact. If you really want to be creative you can plant a funny prop or perform a trick using the audience. I recently went to a wedding and saw someone do this and it was really effective.

Hi it’s Paul…
Best man speech examples are something that I didn’t make good use of until the last minute. As I’ve mentioned previously, I left my speech almost to the last minute and discovered some excellent examples that took my speech to the next level. I strongly recommend that you use templates and other people’s examples so that you avoid some the mistakes that I made.
The great thing about many best man wedding speeches examples is that they are designed to let you fill in the blanks so that you can create a speech quickly. Better still, they are also flexible enough that your speech will sound unique.
Many of the templates that I’ve used are set up as follows:
- Section 1 – People who you should thank
- Section 2 – Stories that you can tell
- Section 3 – The feelings of the big day
- Section 4 – Bride and groom jokes
- Section 5 – Ways of involving the audience
These are some of the components that wedding speech examples provide. Another important thing that examples showed me was when to use a funny remark to shake up the audience from getting too bored. In fact, I learned that the average persons attention span is just 6-9 minutes, so you should be brief, funny and sincere all at once.
If you want to make a lasting impression then I suggest that you find some examples online like I did. You should be able to find something that reflects your personality in no time. Click here for a wedding speech examples that I highly recommend.

Hi it’s Paul…
Being a best man is indeed an honor and one that you should take seriously. It illustrates that your friend has confidence in you and believes that you can be trusted to get the job done. The most important thing to remember during the process is to be yourself.
Best man speech topics can vary. If you’ve never delivered a speech then this can be a stressful time for you. Fortunately I have compiled a list outlining a variety of speech topics that can help you think about what to write. This list can serve as your roadmap for thank-you’s, toast proposals and best man speeches.
Thanking the Wedding Party and Guests
- It’s important to introduce yourself to everyone as not all people will know who you are – take some time to do this.
- Make sure to thank the bride and groom for having you.
- Use a joke or funny story to get the attention of the audience.
- Make a toast to the bride and groom
Having a Little Fun
- Tell a funny story on how you and the groom met. Perhaps a story that says something about your friendship.
- Mention to the wedding audience how the groom introduced you to the bride – what did he say about her?
- Make a few jokes about how the groom has changed since meeting his bride. For instance, he’s no longer allowed to stay out past midnight.
- Poking fun at the groom and roasting him with embarrassing stories should be the focus of your speech. The audience will enjoy hearing you humiliate him.
- Tell some jokes about one of his past times or hobbies – maybe he still collects baseball cards just like you 9 year old niece!
- If there’s a projector in the room, it is a good idea to show pictures of him growing up. Everyone will get a kick at his grade 3 haircut.
Advice on Marriage
- Get a little serious and give your friend some sincere words about marriage and the hard work that it will take.
- Look for some motivational and inspirational quotes that he and his bride can take to heart.
- Tell him what you’ve learned about being married – you can be funny with a few quick stories.
Toast the Wedding Party
- Make sure that you conclude your speech with a toast to the bride and groom.
Well I hope these best man speeches topics were helpful in providing you with some ideas for your toast and speech.
Until next time…..Paul.
